Panic disorder

Panic is a fairly natural response to escape from a life-threatening situation. However, most people who experience panic attacks are not dealing with life-threatening situations. A panic attack can cause various symptoms, such as palpitations, sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, or a tingling sensation. During a panic attack, you often think you're losing control, fainting, or even going crazy. When someone worries excessively about future panic attacks or avoids everyday situations and activities, we call it a panic disorder.


Panic attacks can have a significant impact on your daily life, such as at work, where you might have to take the train, or in your social life, where you might meet up with friends and family less often.


The most effective form is cognitive behavioral therapy; learning to think differently about the fears underlying the panic attack. A panic disorder is easily treated and ultimately curable.

Burn-out

Burned out..


Do you literally feel "burned out"? Then you might be experiencing burnout. Sometimes life suddenly becomes much harder due to all sorts of stressors that demand more from you than you can handle. Then you become overloaded. Burnout is the final stage of a prolonged period of stress and tension. This leaves you with both physical and mental exhaustion.


You can recover well from burnout!

If you actively look for solutions together with your therapist and learn to deal with tension in a different way, there is a good chance that you will gradually be able to resume your normal activities.

OCD: Obsessive-compulsive disorder

"I walk with one leg on the sidewalk and one leg in the gutter. And if I don't, I'll be dead tomorrow."


OCD involves obsessions and compulsions. People with OCD find it very difficult to realize that their thoughts are not real. They know, on some level, that their thoughts are false, but the fear of the potentially disastrous consequences makes them feel compelled to perform the actions anyway, such as compulsive checking, the urge to clean, or the urge to wash.


The most effective treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy with response prevention. The ultimate goal of this treatment is to reduce compulsive behaviors, which are often successful.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

It's hard to fight an enemy that's in your head.


Sometimes people experience traumatic, shocking events like abuse, violence, or a traffic accident. While some are able to process these events on their own, others struggle and can develop psychological problems. PTSD literally means a disorder following a traumatic event. Symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, and startle and avoidance reactions are characteristic and quite normal.


Treating PTSD yourself is a tough job, but a psychologist can help you process a shocking event.

We treat PTSD with EMDR or Imaginary Exposure, which has been proven successful.

EMDR removes the negative emotional charge from memories of distressing events. This also eliminates the symptoms associated with these memories. Imaginary Exposure confronts you with the anxiety-provoking memories of the trauma, with the goal of transforming the emotions.

Fear of illness

Also known as hypochondria; constantly experiencing the fear of having a serious illness, despite medical tests ignoring it. All sorts of common or harmless physical symptoms are seen as signs of a serious illness, such as a twinge, itch, or cramp.


Hypochondria can significantly impact your life. Constantly focusing on aches and pains and worrying about your health takes a lot of energy. However, with sound advice from our experienced therapists, psychoeducation, and cognitive behavioral therapy, you can take important steps.

Grief and loss

Grieving after a loss is a human reaction in which you struggle with all sorts of feelings to come to terms with the loss. When you can't do this and find it incredibly difficult to adapt to the changing circumstances after a loss, you're experiencing complex grief.


It might seem like an impossible task, as if you're stuck in a deep pit you can't climb out of. Grieving naturally takes time, but it's important to deal with the loss in a healthy way during this time. With our help, you'll find that you can gradually climb out of that pit. Take yourself seriously as a grieving person and seek help.
